Independent studio builds momentum in the collector market as physical media outperforms streaming revenue, with its seventh feature in production and two more in development for 2027. LOS ANGELES, CA—November 3, 2026—Magic Engine Studios has announced the release of the Collector’s Edition Blu-ray of PUMPKIN PATCH: MOONBREAKER, marking the independent entertainment studio’s sixth feature film released on physical media in just 18 months.

The new release is available through sister studio K13 Cinematics while Magic Engine completes development of its own dedicated online storefront, scheduled to launch in early 2027.

Written and directed by Magic Engine co-founder Brian James Gage, the 99-minute horror-fantasy adventure continues the story of Melvin Lester, the pumpkin-headed vigilante introduced in 2025’s Pumpkin Patch. The sequel takes audiences beyond Planet Ween into an increasingly bizarre supernatural conflict spanning the high seas, distant islands, and the Moon.

The Blu-ray joins Magic Engine’s expanding catalog of original feature films, providing collectors with a tangible edition of the studio’s latest production.

PHYSICAL MEDIA IS STILL BIG BUSINESS

Despite the entertainment industry's overwhelming shift toward streaming, physical media remains a substantial consumer market.

According to the Digital Entertainment Group, American consumers spent approximately $870 million on DVDs, Blu-rays, and 4K UHD discs in 2025 alone. While the broader physical-media market has contracted, premium formats continue to demonstrate resilience, with 4K UHD sales climbing 12% in 2025 and Blu-ray spending recording renewed growth during the second quarter of 2026.

For Magic Engine, the economics have become particularly compelling. Revenue from physical-media sales is currently outpacing the studio's streaming revenue, reinforcing the company's strategy of building a commercially valuable catalog rather than relying exclusively on digital distribution.

For a lean independent studio, physical media also offers a direct relationship with collectors, additional revenue from existing productions, and an opportunity to extend the commercial lifespan of each film without the inventory commitments and distribution overhead traditionally associated with mass-market home video.

"Everyone talks about streaming, and of course it's an important part of our distribution strategy. But physical media is generating real revenue for us right now with meaningful margins," said Debbi Berlin, CEO and co-founder of Magic Engine Studios. "We're building a catalog that people can discover, watch, and actually own. Six films on Blu-ray in 18 months is a meaningful foundation for a studio our size, and we're only getting started."

SIX FILMS DOWN. THREE MORE IN PRODUCTION.

The latest release arrives as Magic Engine continues an unusually aggressive production schedule for an independent studio.

With six completed feature films in approximately 18 months, the company has already moved into production on its seventh feature, while its eighth and ninth films are in active development, with all three planned for release in 2027.

The rapid expansion reflects Magic Engine's production model, which combines traditional filmmaking disciplines with emerging generative technologies to develop original, feature-length entertainment through a streamlined production pipeline.

Rather than positioning generative filmmaking as an experimental novelty, Magic Engine is building the infrastructure of an operating movie studio: original franchises, an expanding film library, multiple distribution outlets, soundtrack releases, physical collectibles, and a consistent pipeline of new productions.

The strategy is straightforward: make movies, build audiences, retain valuable intellectual property, and create multiple opportunities for every release to generate revenue.

BUILDING THE NEXT CHAPTER

The upcoming Magic Engine storefront will consolidate the studio's growing consumer catalog, including Blu-rays, original motion picture soundtracks, vinyl records, apparel, posters, and other collectibles tied to its expanding universe of original entertainment properties.

Until its anticipated early 2027 launch, the PUMPKIN PATCH: MOONBREAKER Collector's Edition Blu-ray and other physical releases are available through sister studio K13 Cinematics at K13Media.com.

With its seventh feature underway and two additional productions already in development, Magic Engine enters 2027 with a growing catalog and an expanding commercial infrastructure.
